Take Notes!

Every since we have been small children going to school, we were told that we had to take notes. Without notes, the teachers said we could not expect to have the right answers to quizzes and tests upon which we were graded. Without notes, we could not learn and should not expect to remember everything that was said and taught in the classroom. When we started our first jobs, the trainers told us to take good notes so that we could remember our responsibilities and understand how things worked. Indeed, we have been conditioned to take notes, and it is expected that our performance improves because we have those notes. Online education requires the same dedication to note taking.

Taking notes not only means you have the answers to questions for tests, but it is also an essential part of the memory and learning processes. In order to fully comprehend and remember concepts, it usually helps to write things down. The more we work with a theory or equation, the more familiar it becomes until it is second nature. Repetition helps to improve our memories. Babies do simple things over and over again in an attempt to learn the function, even simple things like grabbing a ball. When taking notes from class, the ideas are internalized, making them easier to recall, and easier to use.

Often, students will borrow notes from those in the class who are considered to be excellent note takers. Some people have a knack for writing quickly and succinctly, while others miss much of the information provided because they write too slow, or they cannot distinguish what is important from trivial points. Working at home might give students who have difficulty writing, ample time to write better notes than if they attended physical classes. In class, the professor does not rewind for those who missed relevant examples and ideals. But, videos can be watched over and over.

Some universities have even permitted students to trade their notes online through massive databases. Of course, there is a fee for accessing and downloading someone else's notes, but in a pinch, they might be helpful. We do recommend, however, that you still take your own notes and use bought notes to enhance your own. Remember that you learn differently than others and people tend to expand upon things that are unclear to them. In other words, someone else's notes will be more detailed in some areas, and vague in others, depending on their knowledge of the subject matter. Your knowledge and understanding will be different, in which case, the bought notes may or may not help you.

Lastly, taking notes allows you to pare down the information provided, narrowing-in on key points. Studying is much easier in its smallest denominator. And taking notes allows you to put everything into your own words, so that you can understand and copy the formats in order to complete your assignments.
